Happy Halloween!!!
I hope it's a safe and fun Halloween for every K02 family tonight! Enjoy! Thanks to Michelle and Angie and everyone else who helped make our party a success today!!!
Happy Thursday!
Jenna became a new chunk expert today!!!!
Here we are working on some patterning. We can make patterns. We are also continuing to explore the ENDLESS possibilities for naming a pattern. It does not have to be an AB pattern. It can be squish, squash or 1, 2, 1, 2!
I had the kids get back into a big group and I showed them how to take a large pattern and break it down into it's core unit (the part that repeats over and over again).
Here is Nora showing me her core unit...

Happy Wednesday!
Some great writing to show you today. We talked about making sure we have space between our words! We also think we should use just one color when writing!
Layla: I like Halloween! I like costume!
I asked them today how we could build number patterns and we did some pretty cool stuff with that. We recreated this ABB pattern by stacking snap cubes and then also using numbers to show it.
BOB the dust bunny!!! We are making our own dust bunnies. We are hoping Jenay will help us laminate them so we can use them to rhyme :)
Happy birthday Gabe!!! I hope it was a special day for you today :) :)
A Piggy and Elephant book! A new one too! WAHOOOO!!!!

Happy Tuesday!
Today we continued to learn more facts about bats. We learned about how bats 'roost' when they hang upside down. Sometimes they hang upside down under caves, houses, attics, bridges and trees! Here are some bats roosting in K02 :)
We are continuing to work on our patterns...I noticed today that they get really stuck on color patterns.
Will made us the pattern at the top (white snap cube, red snap cube)--or an AB pattern. The patterns below it were made by other children. I asked them if they were the same pattern and they said NO! As the lesson progressed, many changed their minds.

Miles named his pattern today (splat, cat, splat, cat). A pattern can have any name!
Bryanna used numbers to show her pattern in a different way!
Will used letters to show his pattern in a different way....now they're getting it!

A wonderful Monday!
Today we wrote some non-fiction facts about bats in a really cool bat book!
Bats eat insects. (see that really cool illustration of echolocation!)
We learned a new learning word today...visualizing. This is a reading strategy we'll be focusing on. You can work on it at home too. As you read stories together, model how to visualize like this...
I see...
I can just imagine....
I am picturing this in my mind....

Oh yes. We got BOO'ED last week by a secret class! So today we set off to BOO Mrs. Wahl!
Here we are .... sneaking away :) :)
Happy (late) Thursday!
Here is our first BIG graph! Graph is one of our learning words--or academic vocabulary. We learned that you can get information from a graph. Today I asked them....is a bat a bird?
We talked about our schema...or what we know about something. Then they drew and wrote about their bat schema.
Here is a picture of some of us meeting with Miss Dunker during small groups!
Another learning word...pattern. We will do so much with patterns over the next few weeks. More to come! Here is some of their schema about patterns.
Today the fourth graders came and read their amazing books to us. WOW!
Thanks to Mrs. Muchow for sharing your time with us. It was fun for them to see such amazing stories. These fourth graders are hard workers!
