Friday, October 5th

We used rekenreks for our math warm-up today. I call out a number and they slide that many beads over. Some kids are counting the beads 1 by 1. Some kids can slide that many over without counting. When they start to truly understand number they can easily 'see' that many without counting.
Eventually we'll work on making combinations of numbers.
One of our new kindergarten state standards is that children can fluently name the combinations to 5. Example: If I say, "What goes with 4 to make 5..." the child will know that it's a 1.

Our math activity was to use inventory bags with a partner. We counted the objects and recorded our work! We recorded the number of objects and drew a matching picture!
