Slowly, slowly....we're adding 5 groups of ducks until we reach 100! It's a great way for them to see what skip counting really is. One the 100th day, we made 100 chains and I think, as we're doing this duck project, they're starting to understand why the '10 chain' our boys made actually makes sense. We'll see! I told them we'll have to try a 50 chain in a couple of weeks and see if their approaches change. It's fine for children to be counting by 1's at this time, however, some are ready to move beyond this.
When we talk about our ten fingers we always say, "It's 10! It's always 10 and will always be 10!"
Jaxon is the police officer! We're reading our snap words and they were harder this time :)
Aryn thought of all of the fairy tales we've been reading and she brought us this book from her house. It was so sweet and fun to read! I learned something...now don't laugh. I learned that Gruff is the name of all three billy goats. Did you know that?
Now our big thing is to ask, How Did You Do It? Four of our friends solved a math problem in multiple ways. I believe the problem was...
I have 9 pieces of fruit. Some are apples. Some are bananas. What could my plate look like? We've done this problem before, but I like to change the numbers. It's also great to see friends like those above come up with different combinations.

Kurgan's strategy has really caught on. I showed them where our smaller 100 charts are and they like to use them when possible. Today we had a big talk about whether or not the 100 chart would help us with our problem. That's a huge discussion point in kindergarten problem solving--because you want them to select tools that make sense.
