Don't forget to bring your VDAY boxes and cards tomorrow! Everyone is invited to attend :)
Today we played Grab the Pencil. Two players can play. Player 1 rolls a 12 die while player 2 tries to write from 1 to 12. If player 1 rolls a 12 before player 2 gets them all written, he or she can GRAB THE PENCIL! Very easy to differentiate too--just use dot die or 1-6 die....or larger die!

We had some amazing sharing going today during Daily 5. So I wanted to post some of their thinking and some of the ways that we share and practice this kind of language in K02. We have a poster that says...
What Can We Share?
"My favorite part is..."
"I didn't know that!"
"That's cool!"
"I have a question."
Will actually had us add the last one last week. He was reading a book, and since good readers have questions, he asked us what a fruit salad was. How intelligent! Today we had another reader ask a question. Encourage your readers at home to ask questions when they hear words they don't know or aren't understanding a story.

Jenna had a book with some characters from familiar Disney movies. We were all amazed at how she could read words like 'flounder' and 'treasure.' But then we talked and learned that if you read a book that you already have seen as a movie, you are familiar (have schema) with the characters, setting, etc. This will help you read the words!!!
