Today we worked on a math problem that connected with last week's cupcake problem! It was....Mrs. Cota had 5 cupcakes. She ate 3 of them. How many cupcakes are left?
It's a simple problem, but my end goal was to get them to see that if you know a math fact, you don't really need to draw out the whole thing! Some still like to show it with a drawing, equation and sentence. That's great! I didn't get these pictures in order, but check out Nora's problem a few pics down (it's the sideways picture!) She wrote that she used the fact family of 5, 3 and 2! WOW!
Working on fact families! You can help at home. Your child is supposed to be able to fluently add and subtract all numbers within 5. This means they can't use their fingers or count, etc.
We also reviewed the differences between 2D and 3D shapes today. We worked on the smartboard a bit. We talked about how 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are solids and are not flat.
In reading, we're learning the comprehension strategy of inferring. We looked at loved books today and talked about what clues are in the pictures or words to help us understand how the characters are feeling. You can certainly point out these clues to help your child infer at home!
