Wednesday, October 17th

Here are some friends showing you our new addition to Daily 5. We have been practicing Read to Self all year. Now we have added Read to Someone. Rememeber--there are 3 ways to read a book:
1: Read the pictures
2: Read the words
3: Retell a story you have already read

We are learning how to sit--EEKK--(yes--like what you say when you see a mouse :) with our read to someone partner. Then we each take turns reading one page at a time. They are doing so well! Yesterday our stamina was 10 minutes!

Happy Monday!

We are learning about bats. You can see a few of our friends who drew and wrote words about their bat schema! Schema is what we already know about something. Good readers use schema to make predictions about what a book might be about and to see if it's a good book for them!

They knew all sorts of facts.....bats live in caves/bats sleep upside down/bats eat fruit and insects!
Did you know the flying fox bat is 6 feet wide! The bumblebee bat is only 6 inches wide!

During math we worked on comparing items to see if they were longer or shorter than other objects in the room.

Here are Aryn and Ike working on the iPad at a math station!

Tuesday, October 16th

We made wiggly worms today. We had worms of all different sizes. We ordered them from shortest to longest. This was really hard! Many of them didn't even think to line up the worms on the edge....so we have a lot of measuring work to do :)

We did eventually get all of those wiggly little worms lined up from shortest to longest! PHEW!

Happy Friday!

I had to get a picture of this. Many of our friends are starting to put spaces between words. This is very important for writers to do....otherwise our writing looks like one big, long line of letters!
I always remind them to put the lid of their marker on and then their helper hand is free to space :)

Many kiddos are writing predictable sentences. Way to go Bryson!

Way to go Mahlaya!

Wowza Gabi!

Jaxon ACTUALLY said the word 'hunting' slowly and got it. He needed a little help for the 'ing' chunk. We're working on chunks now.....
ay
ing
sh
ch
....and the list goes on! Many words are tricky words and do not follow the rules....knowing these chunks is super important!

Happy birthday to a special little friend of ours.....Kurgan :) We hope you had a special day!
