Happy Thursday!

This was our math problem today....How many different ways can you fill a hexagon?  More exploration with shapes. They still tried that orange square and tan rhombus!

Here is our math chart from our problem today. They came up with so many ways!

Happy birthday Cason and good luck tomorrow! You'll be a GREAT big brother :)

Junior Achievement started today! This is our new teacher...Dawn Bly :) It was super fun and she did a great job!

Happy birthday Haleigh!!!

Today our math problem was, what shapes can you use to fill a triangle? Very fun! We explored for awhile and would meet back to discuss what we were finding. It didn't take them very long to figure out that you couldn't use a square or a tan rhombus...but boy, did they try!

Here is someone trying those hard to fit shapes! Does it work? Not quite!

Kurgan showed us how you can use 3 trapezoids to fill the triangle.

Oh, those orange squares again :)

They requested that I take this picture of their castle for the hermit crabs :)

Our finished math problem of the day!

Happy birthday Jorgia!

Happy Purple Pettigrew Day!

We've been studying 2 dimensional shapes lately. This is our anchor chart that we've been working on. We explore through a lot of hands on activities so that we can learn the name of each shape along with the number of sides and corners, or vertices.

We've also been learning how to write how to stories. We started by reading Lois Ehlert's book, Snowballs. The characters in this story use 'good stuff' to make all kinds of snowmen, snowgirls and snowpets! :) We're making our own list of good stuff.

Aren't these some great examples of writing? They''ll be up in our hallway soon!

More exploration of shapes! We read, What is a Triangle and got into groups to make as many triangles as we could. We had discussion about whether or not you could use more than 3 popsicle sticks to make a triangle...very interesting.
