Friday, August 31st

Goodbye August! Goodbye heat?! Haha.

Today we did another problem in our math problem solving notebooks. Just look at how 3 friends used 3 different ways to show their thinking.

The problem was: How many snap cubes can you grab with one hand? How can you show your answer?

Mahlaya drew each group and wrote the numeral. :)
Aryn wrote each numeral as she counted the cubes....so when she grabbed 6 cubes, it looked like this:
1,2,3,4,5,6
Cale counted his cubes and then wrote the number of how many cubes there were in all.

We also played a game called Button Match-Up. We are just starting to learn about attributes! This will be one of our first math stations next week!
I got a neat email yesterday after school. We are learning about some cool authors like Eric Carle and Mo Willems. They are two of my favorites! Look who went to the library and lucked out. He got 4 piggy and elephant books!!!! Wow Ryken :) I'm so happy!!! Have fun reading those.

Mo Willems makes great books for beginning readers. Piggy and Elephant books have easy sight words and he also makes Cat the Cat books with rhyming words. Both are excellent for young readers! Check them out!!!

SOOOOOO Hot Outside :)

What a hot week! Yuck. Yesterday's heat seemed to make us super tired and bit cranky....so today I taught the kids how to play inside recess  when it was afternoon recess. We'll play inside recess on below zero days and rainy days :)

They played so nicely together with our inside recess toys.

Tuesday Fun

Today we enjoyed a wonderful story by Mo Willems (one of Miss D's favorite authors)! It was called, We Are in a Book. Now, if you don't have Mo Willems books at your house---you MUST GO GET SOME :) Haha. They are awesome!

We learned that there are three ways to read a book (look above). Ask your child to read the pictures some night and remind him or her that kindergarteners can read :)
In fact, we read a survey question every morning! Can you believe it? Yes, your child is reading this.
We added the smartboard to our choicetime this week. Look how nicely they're waiting in line.
Kiley and Jorgia are enjoying each other's company while coloring during choicetime.
Avery likes to keep track of time while people take turns at the smartboard. Thanks Avery!

Week Two Has Begun!

Oh goodness. Do you see what I see? The word LOVE! What a terrific shirt that also works as a word wall. I can't wait to see Mahlaya's shirt again because a lot of our kiddos will be reading it :)

Whenever I see a heart, it makes me think of the word love.
Working hard in our math problem solving notebooks.
We will sometimes share our thinking with a partner after we're done solving the problem. It promotes good oral language skills and also motivates everyone to try something.
Be sure to check back and see how this wall evolves. It's already different today than it is in this picture. We had a really hard problem this week. A LOT of kids got stuck. This wall will be a place where we post ideas for what to do when we feel stuck. We can't just sit there......I can't wait to see what they come up with!

The First Day in Pictures

Learning to stand and walk in a line!
Learning our hallway and lining up song!
 Lunchroom practice!
 More lunchroom practice

Look how nicely they are all sitting :)

 Some smartboard time!

Having our first snack together.

The first day of kindergarten is magical, mystical and EXHAUSTING-for everyone! It's so funny how I feel like a mom. They followed me around saying, "Teacher!" It made me think that that's what moms and dads hear at home, only it's "Daddy! Daddy!" Haha. It takes a lot of practice and high expectations to turn them into students.

Your children are already getting it. What smarties. I love it! I was excited to come back for another day :) Please continue to check our site!

Teachers Rock

So tonight I accidentally caught a new tv show called Teachers Rock!!! It was so inspiring and very cool to see right before a new year starts. Did any of you watch it at home? Good teaching definitely looks different than what we experienced in the past. I am so excited to win the minds and hearts of your little ones. I hope they looooove school!

Goodnight and happy Friday!

Welcome to K02! I have been crazy busy setting up a classroom. I finally get to meet the kiddos I do know and the kiddos I don't know tonight. I'm am looking forward to it!

I sure had a fun summer. I spent a lot of time as a nanny. I also love to go to our lake cabin and try to ski :) I have to use fat skiis--but that's okay, right?!

I hope to hear all about your summer vacations soon! See you tonight!
