Happy Friday to You!

Here is our friend working on another terrific morning sentence. Today we talked more about snap words, or words we need to know in a snap!

This day we had our very first math problem in math problem solving! The problem was pretty simple: Draw a picture of yourself. How many eyes do you have?
We had some friends draw the picture and few that even recorded the number!

We also practiced writing by and our name when we make projects and write stories. This is just like what real authors do.

We read the book, Elmer and had a super fun art project. We talked about being a part of Team K02.

Today our number was 5! We are learning that numbers have value.

Writing workshop was awesome today! We hung up our first real life story. In kindergarten, we write stories about things we really know about....like our life. I even have some friends who are stretching words out and writing down the sounds they hear!

Happy Thursday!!!

Well, it started out as a very rainy day. :( But it did improve! Here are some friends writing our daily morning sentence. Can you believe we already know how to write a sentence? Learning snap words is a big part of this practice!

We read this awesome book to spark a discussion about readers reading numbers. Numbers are all over in our classrooms, at home, in stores, etc. So we went on a number hunt!

A few kids really wanted to know if they could find a 100 in the class! Looks like they were successful!

We learned how to play the dice game. I love this game! Cade was a great dice roller :)

Happy Wednesday!!!

Boy, did we have a busy day today! We had a GREAT day!!! Eliana was our VIP today.
VIP stands for very important person and it's fun to read!

We read, Mouse Paint. We talked about how readers can read color words. In fact, through our survey, we are learning the color words quite quickly!!

Then we went on a color hunt around the room. I couldn't believe how many kids decided to try and write the color words next to what they drew. Smart!

We also read these two shape books. We talked about how shapes are in books and readers read about shapes! Then we went on a shape hunt in the classroom. We learned that even when we're driving.....we're reading!!! There are words in so many places in the world, that we don't even realize we're reading sometimes. Reading isn't just about sitting down with a book.
Oh...and yes, there were two students who told us about hexagons and heptagons.

We practiced putting our story problem (it was blank today) in our math problem solving notebooks. We'll try our first problem on Friday. Wish us luck!!

All about number 3 today!!

Here we are sharing our writing with each other. These guys and gals are good at adding more pictures or words to their stories now. We still are learning that writers....
don't draw pretty pictures just to draw pretty pictures.
We write what we know about!
Lauren wrote about camping and even added the word lake to her story.

Oh yes. Big part of the day. We added the smartboard to our choicetime. SO fun!

Happy Tuesday!!!

This week we're working with the color word, blue. Jaymeson pointed to each word and read it by himself. Then he pointed while the rest of the class read it!

Here you will see a bunch of photos from reading workshop or Daily 5. We were sharing our favorite books from home and telling why they are our favorites. We'll make a class book out of them soon!

During writing workshop, we learned....
A writer's work is never done! It's only just begun!
Taylor showed us how she could point to each thing on her picture and then pause to think of more pictures she could add. The class came up with some great ideas!

We shared with partners and talked about what we could add to our own stories!

Working on learning the value of numbers....
