FrIdAy!!!!

Today we got a special visit from Jean....who was here to teach us about cleaning our teeth! She was SO good and fun with the kids!!!

Krin got to be a 'tooth.' Very cute!

Owen is OUR FIRST FRIEND to get on the ADVICE WALL!!!!! Just look at the advice I overheard him giving a friend. K02 is still very much working on not copying your friends when they make a poor choice, but giving advice instead.

Happy Thursday!

Isn't this cute? It's a picture of Kelan thinking of his idea before he writes! Boy.....we had 6 risky words by the end of writing today!!! We could just write all day :)
You know....a little rant from me...but it upsets me a little when I see other teachers use bribes to get their children to work. I hope you agree! Let's make learning fun....and talk about how wonderful authors are...while we share with our children who our favorites are and read to them! We need to make writing a fun and authentic experience! Have your child help make homemade cards, etc...we shouldn't have to give children candy to make them feel motivated to work OR to get them to realize the value of hard work and a few struggles here and there.
Ok. Rant over. Thanks for being supportive and encouraging parents!!

Happy FrIdAy!

Did I already post these??? Oh well! They are some of our reviewed writing goals....things that we should already be doing in our writing, but we are still checking in our work each day.

Today we worked on measurement some more! We were measuring with a non-standard unit--a snap cube! We would make a guess and then actually measure objects throughout the room.

We also played BUMP! This is a very fun math game that we'll play next week during our small group/AVMR time.

Happy Tuesday Everyone :) :)

Here we are practicing one of the 3 ways to read a book....reading the pictures.
Please have your child practice this kind of reading at home with picture books. It really helps develop strong story language and many other skills.

Today we switched to real writing paper! WOW! Look at this story! We are learning to label our pictures and streeeetttcchhh out risky words. A couple of students are moving on to harder paper and organizing stories into a beginning, middle and end.

Happy FRIDAY!!!

WE HAVE A NEW CHUNK EXPERT! YAY!!!! Lauren knew the chunk th was in the word birthday....as she wrote a word in our morning sentence. At the end of the day, when I asked them to share a challenge, she said that writing that word was a challenge for her. How sweet!

Mrs. Greer's class came to surprise me for my birthday and they sang to me! How lovely!

We have been learning all about Martin Luther King Jr. Ask your child about him! Come check out our Martins in the hallway too :)

Happy 1/2 birthday to Krin! What a fun celebration :)

Here we are making our Martins....

Happy Wednesday!

Just look at all of our writers this morning! We are still working on the same skills I have mentioned previously....

*Words first
*Telling a true story about your life
*Spaces between words

Happy 1/2 BIRTHDAY to Myah!!!

Happy Tuesday!

We are really working hard to become authors who write real stories about our lives. Today we even had someone write a question in their story!

One thing our class really needs to work on is handwriting. We decided today to spend a lot more time working on whiteboards to improve our handwriting. You can encourage this practice at home too.

We are good readers! Readers can retell stories using the pictures. This is also a GREAT SKILL to work on at home. Today, we used pictures from Jack and the Beanstalk to retell the story with a partner. We learned that we don't read the story word-for-word...instead, we retell it in our own words.
