A Very Happy Monday to You All!

Here is a quick shot (sorry--I was in the moment) of us going to DONATE our hard earned book fair bucks to K03....a class that's in need of new books to love!

A new book donated to us from Mackenzie! THANKS Mackenzie! I can't WAIT to read it to everyone :) Who doesn't love that Pete?

We played a fun Thanksgiving game today. You can play it at home. All you need is a dice!

Happy Wednesday!

Here is a snapshot of some of our writers who are publishing. Read the signs below. This is very serious work! It's just like real authors such as Eric Carle and Mo Willems and all of the hard work they put into publishing.

Happy Tuesday :)

Today we started our very important Reading Strategies anchor chart. This will be a chart we look at all year to help us remember what to do when we get stuck on a word!

We have been practicing patterns everywhere!

We tried breaking patterns into core units. Trickier patterns are harder to break apart!

Happy RaInY Monday!

Today, our number of the day was 16! I love how they can come up now and use sophisticated tools, like 10 frames, to show a teen number.

Happy BIRTHDAY NOAH!!! What a special celebration you had :) I hope you have a great day and I love your new shoes!

Happy Friday!

This week we began to see if we could find one of our stories to begin editing and then get it ready for publishing next week! Publishing is a BIG deal in K02. Only serious writers, doing quality work get to publish.

Will's idea about a brown/brown/yellow/yellow pattern on Monday got me thinking....so today I challenged our friends to come up with DIFFERENT 2 color patterns. It was quite a discussion.
Is a red/blue/red/blue pattern really DIFFERENT than a yellow/white/yellow/white pattern?

Ariana and Will were REALLY having big a-ha's today when they figured out that the color is the same, but not the number of cubes.
So we tried making DIFFERENT patterns with 2 colors. Just look below!

We practiced numbering the patterns, but a couple kids and I talked about how you can really name a pattern anything! That's always a hard concept for some!

Happy Thursday to all!

We illustrated the poem Ding-a-ling today. These are the cutest illustrations! Reading poetry is so much fun and we have them in our reading bags during reading workshop.

Congratulations MARSHALL!!! Marshall was visited by the shark award today because he wrote a sentence with snap words AND he could read it! We all gathered around him and watched him read it. Very fun!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

We had a busy and full day of learning!
We read, We Are in a Book, by Mo Willems. Mo's style, as an author, is to use a lot of speech bubbles! We saw that Braylee used speech bubbles in her writing and we think we can try too!

In math, we started doing some movement patterns...like snap/clap/snap/clap. I asked the kids to see if they could join in with me and they could! We talked about how the movement was repeating over and over again. I asked them if they knew what this was called in math and they said, "Repeating, copying, copy cat." Haha. So cute! I introduced the word 'pattern' with a bubble graph and the kids helped me fill it in with EVERYTHING they know about patterns. They did pretty well!!

This was our first word bank for math. We talked about the learning word, pattern

Will really stumped us today with this pattern: brown brown yellow yellow.
About half of our friends thought it was not a pattern because it had two colors in a row.
I kept repeating the definition: A pattern has a unit that repeats over and over and then they figured it out!

We had a special visitor come today! Piggy and Elephant left us reading pointers!!!!! There was a secret note on the door when we came in from recess!
