Fantastic Friday!

Sorry I haven't posted for a few days.  Here are the upcoming dates and notes you need to know...

  • Saturday - All 5th graders in Sioux Falls School District painted a snow plow.  These will be on display at the mall parking lot on Saturday.  If you get a chance, please go out and vote for Pettigrew!  The top 2 will be shown off at the parade the day after Thanksgiving.  This is a big honor and our kids worked hard.  Lets show them our support!
  • Conferences - I have begun to schedule conferences based on first come, first serve.  I have tried to get everyone scheduled when they requested but most of the night time conferences are already full.  The information on when it is scheduled will come out next Friday.
  • Pumpkin Patch - We will be leaving on Wednesday afternoon for the pumpkin patch. Everyone will get a pumpkin.   Remember to dress for the weather.  We will try to go regardless of the weather.
  • Artist in Residence - Also next Wednesday is our first Artist in Residence visit.  I can't wait to see what happens!
  • Coins for Kids - In your child's backpack, is a container for coins for kids.  Please fill this container with coins and return by next Friday, October 17th.
This week on Wednesday, I started book groups.  Three or four students meet with me once a week to learn a book that is around their reading level.  We work on sounds, letters, and predicting what might happen.  We use picture clues to determine any hard words.  If you get a chance, ask your child about this.  Some are so surprised they can read that they want to read to everyone in class!

We also acted out a small play called Rhyming Dust Bunnies.  It is the same book I talked about earlier this week.  The students loved to pretend to be the dust bunnies and loved to laugh at Bob who never rhymes.

Today we tried to write out numbers from 0-20 in order.  We worked on this individually away from anything that might help us.

Next week we will have many pictures of our field trip so keep an eye on our postings.
