Revisiting an Old Problem

You might not remember....but on the 100th day of school we all attempted to make 100 chains in an organized way. They did a great job. Most kids attempted to count by 1's. It took a loooong time. There was one group that counted by 10's though...so I decided to revisit this activity a few times. Today we made our very own 20 chains and had to write how we organized it.
Here is their problem: Make a 20 chain and tell how you organized it

Here are the tools you'll need :)

Here are some possible ways to enter the problem or think about how you might organize it. (This list was thought up by your children)

Here are some shots of us getting to work. I thought it was interesting that a few kiddos could organize by 5s or 2s, yet they couldn't count in those sequences past 10. We had a great discussion about what to do when you can't get to 20 counting by 2s, 5s or 10s.
They came up with the brilliant idea to double check and count by 1s. How smart. I love to see that they can come up with strategies to make sure they're accurate and they can communicate these strategies (check out our posters below).

K03 loves our idea and they're going to make chains on Monday!!!! SO FUN!
