Happy Tuesday!

Exciting news! We have a chunk poster in our room because kids really start writing like crazy when they learn some common chunks.

Today I showed them the --ing chunk from our schedule. Dawson thought of the word sling shot right away! So we wrote it on the board and showed everyone. Now he is our --ing chunk expert!

Today we practiced more counting! We say that good counters count carefully! This is something you should practice at home. It's interesting that exactly half of our class has mastered counting objects, while keeping track, up to 20.

If you'd like to know where your child is...hand him or her 5 objects and ask if he or she can count carefully and use a good counting strategy. Then up it to 10, 15 and 20!

By the way...a good strategy is to move each object as you say the number.

Look at our morning sentence! It's getting harder every week! We have snap words like can, see, a and I!
There are snap word lists on our shutterfly site if you would like to practice at home. Children will be required to know 20 by the end of the year...but many will read over 40.

One thing many K parents don't realize if how difficult it is for some children to understand the difference between a letter, a word and a sentence. Another good thing to practice! During morning sentence, we make sure we write the word 'see' and not the letter.

Today was our very first day of Read to Self during reading workshop. They picked out their own books last week!
Our stamina (or how long we worked without breaking stamina--being independent) was 10:07! WOW!
