The past few days! Ahh...catching up!

Here is Dawson sharing a great solution to a hard math problem :) The problem said to draw a cat, fish and a dog. Which one does not belong and why?

Most kiddos chose the fish because it swims. The point of problems like these is that students learn to explain their thinking to others. Not everyone has to have the same answer during this time!

By the way....we always work alone during math problem. Our sharing/discussing time is at the end!

This problem asked the kids to draw a box with 3 tails sticking out. How many cats are in the box? Very interesting!!!! Everyone said 3---except for Jaxon :) He said there were 10 cats in the box...but 7 of them were hiding their tails in the box :) WAY TO GO!

Working on our math problem--independently!

This problem asked the kiddos to explain the similarities and differences between cats and dogs. You can see that Natalie has draw the curly tail of a cat versus the straighter tail of a dog :)

Reagan was counting all of the parts of the animals (2 eyes, 1 nose, 4 legs)

Nora came up with a fun idea! She said a difference is that a dog says woof and a cat says meow!

We often will share with our elbow buddies!

We learned that you should look at the front cover of a book to help you decide if it's a good fit book for you! We also learned that when you open up a book you might change your mind and want to swap it for a different one.

They look happy with their choices!

Yay! Today we added our first risky words! These are friends who are not afraid to try writing very hard words during writing time!
We use a strategy where children say the word sloowwwllly and quickly write down the sounds they hear. I tell them NOT to worry if they spelled it how it looks in a book...so if you want to help your child be a better speller--do NOT spell words for him or her. Tell your child that asking an adult to spell it for you is never a good strategy :)

Reagan's risky word: Basketball
Jenna's risky word: Clara
Dawson's risky word: Minecraft
Nora's risky word(s): Basketball hoop
