Pictures from Friday and a rainy Monday :)

Just had to share how some friends decided to skip recess because....they couldn't stop WRITING! Awesome!

Yesterday, we learned the snap word go. Kristen and Reagan helped us identify with this word by playing a little game. They would shout out GO and STOP as we were dancing around the room!

We read the book, Go Away Big Green Monster! Very cool book....many of us had read it before!

Here is Brody sharing a story he wrote about the pumpkin patch! He even added a sentence at the top. We do a lot of repetitive writing (using snap words) during this time of year.

EX: I like _____.   I see _____.   I love____.   I can_____.   We can_____.
If your child is writing at home...here are some tips.
*Do NOT spell words for him or her. Your child needs to develop phonemic awareness skills. Instead, say the word slowly with your child and make sure that he or she stretching it aloud too. Then have him or her quickly write down any sounds/letters that are heard (even if they're wrong-and don't point this out).
*CVC words: If you really want to get into some serious practice--hand your child a whiteboard, easel markers or some paper. Give them words like cat, hot, pop, tip, mug. These are consonant-vowel-consonant words. The vowel must be short. See if your child can segment the sounds and write down the letters. It's normal for children to be hearing just the first sound, or the first and last sound. The medial/vowel sound is harder. If your child is doing this (and many in our class are)....GREAT! Move on to words with chunks like ship, and flop.

Here are some friends playing our new math game! It helps us practice identifying numbers. Some friends are working with 12 dice. Others are working with 20 dice. We have three friends working with numerals up to 1000! WHOA!

Oh....yes. How could I forget. The sign that Peyton made yesterday to help us develop a word wall for go. Very cool because the blinds go up and go down!
